AJ’s Car of the day: ’68 Plymouth Fury Convertible

AJ’s Car of the day: ’68 Plymouth Fury Convertible

Car: Plymouth Fury Convertible

Year: 1968

What makes it special: The Fury was produced by Plymouth for the 1955 through 1989 model years, and was a sub-series of Plymouth’s Belvedere model. Throughout its run, it went back and forth from the full-sized to mid-sized car levels.

What made it famous: After getting a restyle for the 1965 model year, Fury for 1968 got only some minor front end grille and rear taillight trim updates, side marker lights and shoulder belts, with the exception of the convertible model. The standard powerplant was the 318 cu in V8, or 225 cu in “Slant-Six.” There were seventeen different exterior colors available for the Fury that year.

Why I would want one: Love the stacked headlights look, love the drop top.

Fun fact: The last of the Fury line rolled off out of the factory in 1989.

AJ’s Car of the Day: ’56 Lincoln Premiere Two-Door Hardtop Coupe

AJ’s Car of the Day: ’56 Lincoln Premiere Two-Door Hardtop Coupe

Car: Lincoln Premiere Two-Door Hardtop Coupe

Year: 1956

What makes it special: Produced for the 1956 through 1960 model years, the Lincoln Premiere took the slot below the Continental Mark II and above the Capri models. Available in either two-door or four-door trim levels, it was replaced by the Continental Sedan for the 1961 model year.

What made it famous: The upscale version of the Capri model, the Premiere boasted a 368 cu in Lincoln Y-Block as its powerplant. It got its styling cues from Mercury Concept cars like the XM-800 and the Lincoln Futura. It featured a stylish exterior, high-grade interior, and a unique factory a/c that ran through overhead aircraft-style ducting as optional equipment. It was the top-end Lincoln, but different than the more expensive Continental Mark II being produced by Ford’s Continental Motorcars division.

Why I would want one: I love different. You may come across Lincolns on occasion, but rarely do you come across a Premiere model.

Fun fact: Fans of the 60’s Batman TV series may notice a familiarity between the Batmobile and the Premiere, as both took their styling cues from the Lincoln Futura concept.

AJ’s Car of the Day: ’58 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible

AJ’s Car of the Day: ’58 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible

Car: Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible

Year: 1958

What makes it special: The 1956-1958 Cadillac Series Sixty-Two Eldorado Biarritz was one of the revised editions of the Eldorado convertible that didn’t sell particularly well. Biarritz designation was new because there was now also a companion hardtop, the Seville.

What made it famous: Cadillac’s 331 V8 was bored out to 365 cubes, with a special tuned version reserved for Eldorado’s: Twin 4-barrel carbs for 1956-57, and triple two-throat units for 1958. The 1956-57 models were once considered the last highly collectible Eldorado convertibles through 1971. But the ’58 version, a chrome-plated monster, and the ’59, which took tailfins to a new level are highly sought out now, particularly the ’59. The had a unique rear-end appearance and luxurious interiors.

Why I would want one: Those rear fins, and loads of chrome.

Fun fact: These are pretty rare to find.
