Throwback Concert: Godsmack at Toyota Oakdale Theatre 2004

By Drew Carrano

Last month Sully Erna announced Godsmack has cancelled all its 2020 tour plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So what’s Sully doing now? Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, the Godsmack frontman broadcasts his very own YouTube show called “Hometown Sessions.” This bi-weekly show can be viewed at www.youtube.com/SullyErna.

While we wait for Godsmack to tour again, today we look back at when they played an acoustic show at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre in 2004.

An Acoustic Evening with Godsmack

Sunday December 12, 2004

Toyota Oakdale Theatre – Wallingford

About The Tour:

In 2004 Godsmack spent its summer on tour with Metallica. By the time September rolled around, Godsmack focused its attention on headlining their very own acoustic tour in support of its EP entitled “The Other Side.” The EP was released in March 2004 and it included three brand new acoustic tracks plus a selection of previously released Godsmack songs that were re-recorded as acoustic versions.

The Godsmack acoustic tour kicked off on September 9, 2004 in Colorado Springs. Joining them on the tour was Dropbox frontman John Kosco and guitarist Lee Richards, who made guest appearances with Godsmack on the song “Touche.”

Below is the setlist from Godsmack’s performance at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre on December 12, 2004.

Tuesday, May 19: Mayor Mark Boughton’s Viral Video, The Mansfield Drive-In, Barbers and Hair Stylists Argue About Opening

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton was on with Chaz and AJ to talk about his viral video, which was a satirical spin on “Tiger King” Joe Exotic’s music video. He did it all to raise money to feed people. (0:00)

As businesses begin reopening tomorrow, the Mansfield drive-in theater is prepared with a triple feature. Chaz and AJ asked Elena about the selections, how social distancing will work, and how you can still order snacks. (8:35)

Jessie the hair stylist is not comfortable opening up salons just yet, but is still upset with Governor Lamont’s decision to move the re-opening date. They’ve spent money to be ready to open, and how even the salons that don’t feel safe will have to open, or lose customers. (19:37)

Dino the barber is on the other side of the argument as Jessie, and wants to have his business open up tomorrow. Dino admitted that it feels impossible to bring new clients in with the restrictions that have been put in place for the reopening of salons. Then, Sarah from St. Vincent’s defended the governor’s decision, based on cases still coming into the hospital and asked everyone rushing to re-open to continue to be safe with social distancing and wearing masks. (25:24)

Pat called in his story about being stabbed in the lung during a Phil Lesh concert in Boston, after trying to stop a shop lifter. (38:16)

Comedian Will Noonan was on for his weekly check-in from Boston, and shared a story about getting busted smoking pot in the Boston Commons by a police officer, who turned out to be his father. (46:48)

Tuna from the Boardwalk Marina was on to talk about reopening tomorrow, social distancing between boat slips, and potentially came up with a new state slogan. (52:17)

Brian Glasser from J.P. MaGuire Associates was on to explain their sanitizing process, and why to be wary of other companies that only opened up recently. (58:10)

Throwback Concert: Linkin Park at Mohegan Sun Arena 2012

Throwback Concert: Linkin Park at Mohegan Sun Arena 2012

By Drew Carrano

Could Linkin Park be making a comeback? Perhaps, according to bassist Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell. Just last month Farrell revealed the band is working on new material. But unfortunately, due to COVID-19, that work has been put on hold. It will be interesting to hear new music from Linkin Park, minus singer Chester Bennington, who tragically took his own life in 2017.

Today we look back at Linkin Park’s last show in Connecticut, which was on the Honda Civic Tour with Mutemath.

Linkin Park

Honda Civic Tour

Special Guests: Mutemath

Sunday August 12, 2012

Mohegan Sun Arena – Uncasville

About The Tour:

The 11th Annual Honda Civic Tour featured co-headliners Linkin Park and Incubus, plus special guest Mutemath. The tour had only 17 dates, making it the shortest Honda Civic Tour ever. Incubus didn’t join in on the tour until the third scheduled date in Boston.

The 2012 Honda Civic Tour kicked off in Bristow, Virginia on August 11th and wrapped up in Chula Visita, California almost exactly one month later. Mohegan Sun was just the second stop on the tour, which meant Incubus was not on the bill.

Interesting note: this would be Linkin Park’s last performance in Connecticut as their 2015 show, also at Mohegan Sun, was cancelled due to Chester Bennington’s ankle injury.

Throwback Concert: Foo Fighters & Weezer at Arena at Harbor Yard 2005

Throwback Concert: Foo Fighters & Weezer at Arena at Harbor Yard 2005

By Drew Carrano

2020 was supposed to be a big year for The Foo Fighters. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the band and Dave Grohl and company had big plans. Among those plans was a 25th anniversary ‘Van Tour’ and headline festivals like Boston Calling, Osheaga and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19, those plans have been put on hold.

Today we look back at when the Foos played a rare show in Connecticut and brought Weezer with them for a co-headlining tour.

Today’s Throwback Concert:

Foo Fighters & Weezer

Foozer Tour

Special Guest: Hot Hot Heat

Tuesday October 11, 2005

Arena at Harbor Yard – Bridgeport (now Webster Bank Arena)

About The Tour:

In July 2005 Foo Fighters and Weezer announced a joint U.S. Tour that would start after Labor Day. The two-month tour, called The Foozer Tour, kicked off on September 8th in Duluth, Georgia and would visit 25 cities across the United States, including Bridgeport.

Over the years Weezer has played quite a few times in Connecticut. After all, singer Rivers Cuomo grew up in the Nutmeg State. But the Foo Fighters? Not so much. Their 2005 appearance at The Arena at Harbor Yard was a rare one for us. You’d have to go back to July 2000 for their only other show here (Hartford’s XFINITY Theatre).

Weezer took the stage after opener Hot Hot Heat and didn’t waste time in getting the sold out crowd into a frenzy with their opening song, “Hash Pipe.” Because this was a co-headlining tour, Weezer played a full set. They played all their hits plus a couple covers, including one by the Foo Fighters (Big Me). During the course of their set Cuomo makes reference to his Connecticut ties, pointing out that he attended E.O. Smith High School in Storrs. During Weezer’s encore, the band brought up a kid from the crowd to play the acoustic guitar to “Undone – The Sweater Song,” which the audience gladly sang to.

Foo Fighters came on next and kept the energy in the building going. The crowd had fun rockin’ out to songs like “My Hero,” “Best of You” and “Times Like These.” They ended their hour plus set with a bang playing “Breakout” and “Monkey Wrench.”
