PODCAST – Friday, January 22: Dumb Ass News Testicle Fight; Ashley’s Terrible Movie Knowledge; Celebs Call In For Fun Fact Friday

Mitch Hallock the “King of the Nerds” was on the phone, as Ashley continued to horrify and disappoint Chaz and AJ with her glaring lack of movie knowledge. (0:00)

New Haven mayor Justin Elicker recently decided to seek re-election. Chaz and AJ had him on the phone to help, though maybe it backfired. At least they left him with a good idea for viral marketing and exposure. (15:07)

Dumb Ass News – A man was arrested for a fight over a testicle. While discussing the details, the Tribe called in their stories about missing testicles. (28:37)

More Tribe stories about horrible testicle incidents, including a golfing accident and a good reminder that nail guns are not toys. (38:27)

During Fun Fact Friday, Bernie Sanders called in to talk about the crazy viral meme of him in a chair wearing mittens, and then David Letterman and Paul Schaffer talked about pineapples. (44:06)

Boss Keith always sounds angry during his Top 5 lists, but wanted to try and focus on his sensitive side this morning. Instead, he was mocked for his emotional attachment to fake people. (54:01)

50 Years, 50 Albums 2004: Green Day ‘American Idiot’

50 Years, 50 Albums 2004: Green Day ‘American Idiot’

Stolen recordings led to one of Green Day’s best albums! While working on a new album (Cigarettes and Valentines) master tapes were somehow stolen, so the band decided to start from scratch leaving C & V behind. American Idiot, a “Punk Rock Opera”, was born. With the anti-hero “Jesus of Suburbia”, as “Tommy” from The Who spoke to a 1960s generation, American Idiot spoke to a newer generation about the troubled times of the early 2000s, 9/11, etc. The album won a Grammy for best rock album in 2005 and Tonys for the production on Broadway. We welcome Green Day’s American Idiot to the 99.1 PLR Hall of Fame.

Throwback Concert: Van Halen at The XL Center 2004

Throwback Concert: Van Halen at The XL Center 2004

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 2004!

In 2004 we saw Van Halen hit the road for the first time since 1998 and saw the return of singer Sammy Hagar, who left the band in 1996 after differences with Eddie Van Halen. The band was back together! All was right in the world for VH, right? Wrong. The relationship between Hagar and Eddie began well, but went downhill fast. This tour ultimately would be the final Van Halen tour with Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony.

Today we look back at Van Halen’s last ever concert at the XL Center…

PODCAST – Wednesday, January 20: A Busy Night In Bridgeport; Best Romantic Movies; New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart

PODCAST – Wednesday, January 20: A Busy Night In Bridgeport; Best Romantic Movies; New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart

Brian Averna called in to share an encounter with a nut bag. Chaz and AJ got a wild story, that ended with someone getting hit in the head with a bottle of juice. (0:00)

Joe Corradino is a state’s attorney, who was on this morning after an already busy and eventful night in Bridgeport. (9:21)

Joe Meyers is a movie critic, and was on to talk to Ashley about her first viewing of “Schindler’s List,” and then to talk to Chaz and AJ about their favorite romantic movies of all time (NO rom-coms!) First, he had to endure another round of Boss Keith’s wacky rules about movie box office performance. (24:12)

New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart was on to talk about the historical importance of the first female Vice President taking office today, even though she is with a different political party. (40:00)

Dumb Ass News – It started with a trip to the bathroom that went a little too long, and then audio of a thief that was caught trying to rob from the wrong guy. (53:34)

President Trump called in to the show for the last time as the President of the United States, and clarified the pardons he issued yesterday and why he will not be present for Joe Biden’s inauguration.
