Throwback Concert: Queen at Waterbury’s Palace Theater 1976

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1976!

That year Queen kicked off its “A Night At The Opera” North American Tour at Waterbury’s Palace Theater. Queen had performed twice before at The Palace: 1974 and 1975. This show in ’76 was their final show at The Palace, but first time ever Queen had performed the song Bohemian Rhapsody live on American soil. How cool is that?

Today we take a trip back to 1976 and revisit this historic Queen concert

Throwback Concert: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Waterbury’s Palace Theater 1976

Throwback Concert: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Waterbury’s Palace Theater 1976

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1976!

That year PLR presented Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Waterbury’s Palace Theater. It was just one year after The Boss released his hugely successful “Born To Run” album, which featured hits like Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Jungleland and the title track Born To Run. Seeing Springsteen in an intimate setting like the Place was a huge treat to the couple thousand in attendance, especially since The Boss wouldn’t play another “theater” show in Connecticut until his 1996 solo tour.

Today we look back at Springsteen in Waterbury in 1976…

50 Years, 50 Albums 1994: Soundgarden ‘Superunknown’

50 Years, 50 Albums 1994: Soundgarden ‘Superunknown’

This is the 4th album from Soundgarden and definitely their breakthrough record. Superunknown was recorded shortly after the 1992 Lollapalooza tour and supporting the previous album Badmotorfinger, which gave us songs like “Outshined” and “Rusty Cage.” Superunknown was released in March of 1994 with the first single released in February of that year. “Spoonman” launched this band into the mainstream popularity of rock, no longer considered an Alternative or a Grunge band. Four more singles from this album made Superunknown the best selling album for Soundgarden, 9 times platinum and certainly emphasizing the talent of the late Chris Cornell.
