99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1989!

That year we rocked out to Bon Jovi as they brought their New Jersey Syndicate Tour to Hartford’s XL Center (formerly the Hartford Civic Center). In 1989 Bon Jovi hit the road in support of its fourth studio album, “New Jersey,” which featured hits Lay Your Hands on Me, Bad Medicine and I’ll Be There for You. Joining them on the tour were fellow New Jersey rockers Skid Row.

Chaz and AJ talked about the state opening up vaccine appointments for people aged 65 or older. While discussing their plans to get vaccinated, they imagined what it would be like if one of the side-effects caused people to behave opposite to their normal tendencies. (0:00)

Vince the bookie was back on to talk about the Super Bowl, which was not a good time for him. Tom Brady, once again, has made Vince’s life very difficult. At least Chaz and AJ won their prop bet! (6:51)

Dr. Tammy Nelson was on talking about the Top 5 things ruining your sex life, and while recapping everything turned against Chaz. (19:15)

Nick the science guy was on to quell everyone’s concerns about a giant asteroid approaching Earth. Apparently, NASA has known about it for 20 years. Just for educational purposes, Nick explained what would happen if an asteroid that size were to hit the Earth’s surface. (26:24)

Dumb Ass News – Chaz and AJ revisited a comment AJ made during Nick’s call, and a selfie-taker in Hoboken fell into icy waters and needed rescuing. (40:00)

Boston comedian Will Noonan’s phone was on fire during the Super Bowl, since he appeared in a commercial that aired in the Boston area! Plus, the big money he won on a long-shot bet. (46:03)

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1989!

That year PLR welcomed Aerosmith back to New Haven Coliseum. After a highly successful Permanent Vacation Tour in 1987, Aerosmith hit the road in ’89 to support its tenth studio album “Pump,” which featured hits like Love In An Elevator and Janie’s Got a Gun. The tour lasted almost a full year and there were multiple opening acts along the way, including Metallica, Joan Jett, Poison, The Black Crowes and The Cult. By the time the tour came to New Haven, Skid Row was tabbed as the opener.

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1989!

That year Metallica came to Connecticut twice on their ‘Damaged Justice’ Tour: The XL Center in March and Lake Compounce in July. They hit the road to support their fourth studio album, “…And Justice for All,” which was first album with bassist Jason Newsted. The tour started in September 1989 and made its way to Hartford in the spring during the first leg of their North American Tour.

Today we re-visit their show in Hartford…

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1976!

WPLR’s studio at the time was on Chapel Street, which was a short drive to New Haven Coliseum. WPLR and The Coliseum had a long history of welcoming some of the biggest rock acts to New Haven. In 1976 WPLR welcomed David Bowie back to the Coliseum. Bowie came to New Haven on March 22nd to support his tenth studio album, “Station To Station,” which featured the hit single Golden Years.

Interesting note about this show: Just two nights earlier in Rochester, Bowie and a few of his friends were arrested on marijuana charges. He paid the bond and hit the road and headed to Springfield and New Haven to play his scheduled gigs before his scheduled arraignment back in Rochester later that week. Long story short, Bowie pleaded innocent and eventually the charges were dismissed.
