99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 2009!
That year PLR welcomed The J. Geils Band to Mohegan Sun Arena for a very special New Year’s Eve performance. It was the first time in over a decade these Massachusetts rocks had played in Connecticut. The J. Geils Band certainly gave the thousands in attendance a great show on a very cold, snowy night in Uncasville.

This is the second time a debut album has been voted into the WPLR Hall of Fame; the first was Boston and now we welcome Cage the Elephant’s self-titled debut album. Formed back in 2006 in Bowling Green, Kentucky by brothers Matt and Brad Shultz combining classic rock along with blues, punk rock and alternative rock. Cage the Elephant’s debut album was first released in 2008 in the U.K. where the band relocated to, and then it was released in the U.S. March of 2009 giving these guys a huge following in both the U.S. and England. So far, the band has five albums out and is still active today.

Chaz and AJ joined the City of Bridgeport for the press conference for Jimmy Koplik’s Coats For A Cause. The press conference was held at the Harbor Yard Amphitheater and featured Mayor Joe Ganim, Bridgeport City Councilwoman Jeanette Herron, Live Nation’s Jimmy Koplik and Howard Saffan from Harbor Yard Amphitheater.
The next round of vaccines are set to go out in Connecticut, but there’s some confusion over who exactly is included in the group. Plus, a collection of serious weather events around the country, but one dude just had to go out to get corn dogs. (0:00)
Freak accident stories. Chaz and AJ saw a story about a barber that stabbed himself with scissors, and asked the Tribe to call in their freak accident stories. (16:31)
Dumb Ass News – The hot wax challenge on TikTok is another dumb trend that has experts worried people will suffocate themselves. (24:49)
Rock photographer Bob Gruen was on to share some stories of working with big time rock bands like AC/DC, and some of his coolest memories from CBGBs. (36:04)
