50 Years, 50 Albums 2007: The White Stripes ‘Icky Thump’

50 Years, 50 Albums 2007: The White Stripes ‘Icky Thump’

The rock duo out of Detroit is now in our Hall of Fame. With a short run of seven years The White Stripes, Jack White and then wife Meg White, put out six incredible albums that covered the genres of alternative rock, garage rock, alternative, punk, blues, etc. Although they are no longer together (or married), Jack has continued as musician, producer, and actor! Meg has always led a low profile a lot like her idol Bob Dylan. “Icky Thump” was their 6th and final studio album together which won two Grammys in 2008 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo and Best Alternative Album. Jack calls the album a positive one, getting back to the roots like their first album, about feeling positive, alive, and just being happy! Well we are certainly happy to induct the album Icky Thump by The White Stripes into the WPLR Hall of Fame.

Throwback Concert: Van Halen at Mohegan Sun Arena 2007

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 2007!

That year PLR welcomed Van Halen to Mohegan Sun Arena. It was Van Halen’s first tour in three years and the first one with singer David Lee Roth since 1985. It was also the first Van Halen tour to feature then 16-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie and nephew of Alex. It also marked the first time since 1974 that any slot in the band, other than vocalist, had changed.

Today we look back at Van Halen’s 2007 show at Mohegan Sun….

PODCAST – Thursday, March 18: CT Vaccine News; Dumb Laws; Family Feud; Colin Mochrie

PODCAST – Thursday, March 18: CT Vaccine News; Dumb Laws; Family Feud; Colin Mochrie

The state of Connecticut will soon allow people scheduling their date for the vaccine to choose which one they would like. (0:00)

Nick the Science Guy was on to explain why there’s a pitch to put a “doomsday vault” on the moon, and what would go into it. During his explanation he mentioned super volcanoes as a potential doomsday event, and scared the crap out of everyone. (8:21)

Dumb Ass News – Attorney Norm Pattis was on for part one of the dumbest laws on the books. Chaz and AJ will be counting down a list of six of them, but only got to half of them this morning. (19:30)

Mitch Hallock the King of the Nerds was on to play “Family Feud” against Tribe member Tone, who had to out-nerd Mitch in the sci-fi movie category. At the end of the game, Ashley tried (and failed) to answer a simple question, so she just made a choking sound instead. (26:24)

Colin Mochrie was on to talk about the live improv show he’s doing on Zoom, even though his partner in the show will be in a different country. Since Ashley is a such a big fan of Colin’s, Chaz and AJ gave her an opportunity to ask him a question and she had a hysterical response. (39:19)

PODCAST – Wednesday, March 17: Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Petey Boy, Classic Drunk Audio, Jennifer’s Birthday, And More!

Chaz’s wife, Jennifer is celebrating her birthday today! She was on the phone so everyone could wish her a happy birthday, and so she and Chaz could roast each other. (0:00)

Petey Boy is back! Chaz and AJ had Boston’s Petey Boy at a St. Patrick’s Day broadcast years ago, when bars were allowed to have people in them, and he was on the phone this morning to catch up. (6:58)

You cannot celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without audio of people who have done a little too much celebrating already. From a past St. Patrick’s Day parade, Chaz and AJ dug up the infamous Stoshball interview of J-Mac. (16:10)

Bridgeport’s St. Patrick’s Day parade has had the same Grand Marshal for the past two years. Only problem is there hasn’t been a parade for her to lead. Mary Ann Doonan was on to talk about moving to Connecticut from Ireland as a teenager, living with her many siblings while sharing only four bedrooms, and how she met her husband. (26:12)

Movie Critic Joe Meyers was on to discuss the Oscar nominations and streaming services. After mentioning the four-hour “Snyder cut” of Justice League, Ashley completely stuck her foot in her mouth while talking about Wonder Woman. (37:22)
