Throwback Concert: Neil Young at Shakespeare Festival Theatre 1971

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating our first year on the air: 1971.

That year Neil Young hit the road for a solo tour that came to The American Shakespeare Festival Theatre and Academy in Stratford. Unfortunately The Shakespeare Theatre is no longer around (it sadly burned to the ground in January 2019), but the recording of this show lives on. In March 2021 Neil Young released a live album and concert film entitled “Young Shakespeare” from that ’71 show in Stratford.

PODCAST – Monday, April 26: Oscars Recap; Tribe Tick Stories; Elon Musk Wants Humans On Mars

Dumb Ass News – A horse was spotted at a car wash, and residents of Belchertown, Mass. were very concerned. An entire news report was put together, just to reassure everyone that the horse is fine. (0:00)

Movie critic Joe Meyers watched every minute of last night’s Oscars, and thought it was one of the better broadcasts the awards show has ever done. He addressed the controversy of Best Actor not going to Chadwick Boseman, and the one bit from the broadcast he really hated. (9:53)

Boss Keith also watched every minute of the Oscars. He pretty much hated all of it, and yelled about how they can fix it for next year. (27:45)

Dumb Ass News – Elon Musk wants to put human beings on Mars. Why is the internet mocking him for this? (40:46)

It seems like this year is going to be a busy one with ticks, judging by the stories Chaz and AJ have already gotten from the Tribe. One guy spent 30 minutes fishing, and found over 20 ticks on his legs afterwards. (47:20)

Throwback Concert: Mountain at Quinnipiac University 1971

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating our first year on the air: 1971.

That year Mountain, along with Johnny Winter, played two shows on the same night at Quinnipiac University in Hamden. The first show was at 8pm and the second show at 11pm. Mountain had just released its monster hit “Mississippi Queen” the year before and were hitting the road to support their second studio album, “Nantucket Sleighride.”

Comedian Sam Morril called in after a very late night on stage at the Stress Factory. He admitted the crowd was too drunk, and this weekend might be his last-ever trip to Bridgeport. (23:17)

During Fun Fact Friday, a Tribe member called in a fact about the highways in the United States. (30:26)

Rose from Avon was on to warn people about bear season. She had her garage ripped apart by bears recently, even though the door was closed, and the garbage was supposed to be protected from them. (34:48)

Boss Keith’s Top 5 was half about Matt Scott’s comments towards AJ’s weight, and half about his list predicting the future. He had thoughts on the Oscars, the NFL Draft, and how much weight he’ll be gaining this summer. (47:34)
