Throwback Concert: Fleetwood Mac at UConn 1975

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1975!

That year PLR welcomed Fleetwood Mac to the University of Connecticut’s Jorgensen Center. Fleetwood Mac hit the road in ’75 to support their tenth album “Fleetwood Mac,” which featured the singles Rhiannon, Warm Ways, Over My Head and Say You Love Me. This was their first album with Lindsey Buckingham on guitars and Stevie Nicks on vocals.

Fleetwood Mac’s show at UConn occurred just five days after playing New Haven Coliseum and their fifth show in Connecticut in the year 1975!

50 Years, 50 Albums 2003: Linkin Park ‘Meteora’

Formed in Agoura Hills, California in 1996, Linkin Park rose to fame in 2000 with their debut album Hybrid Theory released during the nu metal scene with heavy airplay on MTV. This certainly paved the way for their second album Meteora debuting at number one upon its release in March 2003. Meteora has sold over 16 million copies worldwide making it one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, certified 7x Platinum. The band shares the writing credits on this album, lyrically and typically Linkin Park, dealing with depressing emotions, anger, and recovery delivered perfectly by the late Chester Bennington.

Hummels PLR 99 One-on-One: Stormin Norman

He was at WPLR for two short but incredible years in music history. Connecticut radio legend Stormin Norman was on the air the night John Lennon was murdered, was on the air the day the Eagles played the Yale Bowl and more. He shared his stories of loading Billy Joel into Toad’s Place, seeing the Stones at Toad’s, asking Paul McCartney a question that got an answer that was used in media reports around the world. It was real fun talking to the amazing Stormin Norman.

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 2003!

That year PLR welcomed the Eagles to Mohegan Sun Arena. It was their “Farewell I Tour” and it featured the Eagles as a quartet without guitarist Don Felder, who was terminated from the band in 2001. It was also the Eagles first show in Connecticut in over 7 years and their first time ever playing at Mohegan Sun.
