99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating our ninth year on the air: 1980!
WPLR’s studio at the time was on Chapel Street, which was a short drive to New Haven Coliseum. WPLR and The Coliseum had a long history of presenting some of the biggest rock acts to New Haven. In 1980 WPLR presented RUSH at New Haven Coliseum. Rush came to the Coliseum to support their seventh studio album, “Permanent Waves.” which included the hit “The Spirit of Radio.”
